A successful week...lessons, brownies, a parrot and setting goals

November 13th

This has been a successful week for us. We've been working really hard trying to find new people to teach and I think the Lord finally got sick of us asking so much so he gave us a bunch of people to work with. We found 12 new investigators this week which is awesome. We've been doing pretty much all of our work at the edge of our area in a place called Jari because the people there haven't really heard the gospel much. The middle of our area has so many churches it's crazy. The only downside to going there (besides the walking that  is required) is that the people aren't exactly the brightest. We've had to teach very very simply because the people don't really focus or understand very well. I actually don't think that some of them have understood much of anything that we've taught them... but it's alright. They still went to church so they understood enough.

This week was also the week of Elder Alcantara's birthday! He is now 24. Yeah he's got 6 years on me it's pretty funny. Lot's of brazilians here are really old so I feel especially young here. For his birthday, I decided to make brownies (thanks for the receipe mother). By the time they were ready, it was already almost 10:30 so I hurried and put some candles in so we'd have time to at least sing happy birthday and blow out the candles. The problem with this was that the brownies were still hot. So the candles all melted into the brownie and pretty much ruined the whole thing. But hey, at least I tried. We also have one investigator who has a parrot. It's pretty awesome and likes to chill with us during each lesson. He's pretty cool to watch but it's probably not the best for the lesson itself. He likes to randomly scream and he's definitely distracting but luckily Lucas (the investigator) is really awesome so it's all right. Towards the end of the lesson, I got the opportunity to have him chill on my shoulder so that was fun. I felt like a pirate but couldn't say "arr" or anything cause, you know, i'm a representative of Jesus Christ. Definitely still said it in my head though.

One thing that i've noticed this week is how the lord will bless us if we really try to meet our goals. Each day, we have a goal to talk to at least 20 people on the street. We've realized that many times, the last few contacts are the best ones. Even though there are many days i'm just sick of talking to people, I still try to meet the goal because I know the lord will bless me because of it. Setting goals and prayin for help to complete them is a great tool that I'd like to use for the rest of my life. Also update on the language: I am starting to understand a little better. Like I said before, I can understand other missionaries for the most part but the people here are the difficult ones. But this week i've been able to understand a little more. I definitely can't understand much still but hey- it's improvement so i'll take it.

That's it for me this week. Already half way through the second transfer. Time sure is strange here. Until next week.
